Reinforcing steel is one of the most consequential line items in a concrete project. A well-defined request for quotation reduces substitutions, site delays and misunderstandings.

01

Specify the exact material

State the required steel standard, grade, nominal diameters, cut lengths and estimated quantity by diameter. Attach the bar bending schedule if available. Ask bidders to state which mill and production batch will be supplied.

02

Request traceable documentation

Where applicable, request mill test certificates and clear statements of relevant compliance. Confirm that documentation matches the specific material delivered rather than a generic catalog certificate.

03

Compare landed cost

Compare quotes on a common basis: unit weight, applicable taxes, loading, unloading, transport to site and realistic delivery dates. A lower ex-warehouse rate may not be the lowest installed procurement cost.

04

Plan delivery and handling

Provide site access restrictions, lifting capability, unloading hours and phasing. Agree on the process for checking bundle tags, piece counts, diameters and delivery challans upon arrival.
